The Resort and Beyond! (This is only a partial list of all the activities that await you in beautiful Central Oregon!) Visit one of the Sports Centers (or all three) As our guest, you will have access to all the sports centers. The one near our unit is called the Lakeside Sports Center and has a nice fitness gym, pool, hot tub, and spray park. A sports court and tennis court are also featured (they will even provide you with the rackets, tennis balls and basketballs). You will need to take the amenity access form to the Resort Sports Center (located at the end of the road on left after turning into main entrance).
Hike Cline Butte Hike Cline Butte Just right out the back door! Take the paved path running behind the unit and walk south (the stream will be on your left). When you reach the utility access road under the electrical lines, walk east towards the butte on the paved road. Approximately 100 yards on the right, you will see a sign indicating the beginning of the trail. This is about a 1 ½ mile hike to 3700 feet where you are rewarded with a beautiful view of the Cascade Mountains. Ignore the "No Trespassing" sign, at the entrance to the trail. This is a private trail for Eagle Crest owners and guests. There are several resting points on the way and a plaque at the top listing the mountains and their elevations. For a special treat, hike up a half hour before sundown to see a beautiful sunset over the Cascades.
Try the Putting Course at the Ridge Sports Center While Eagle Crest is certainly well known for championship golf courses, the putting course offers a full 18-hole round of golf with just your putter! Since this course opened in 1996 it has been a favorite of kids and families. You can test your putting skills or play a round with the kids in an atmosphere that is fun and encouraging for even the youngest ones!
Take a Bike Ride After you have had your fill on the 18 miles of paved bike paths around Eagle Crest, try something a bit more adventurous! One of the best rides in the area is an all-downhill 'shuttle' that starts at the caldera rim of the Newberry Volcano, just south of Bend. During the length of the ride, you will descend over 2,500 vertical feet. Coasting down the smooth dirt forest trail, you will be close to the sparkling waterfalls of Paulina Creek. Your visit will include four waterfalls and two safe natural waterslides to explore and play in. Reservations can be made by calling 800-296-0562. Also check out Cog Wild (www.cogwild.com) for shuttles from Bend up the Cascade Lakes Highway beginning each June until September. The meeting spot is the Cascade Lakes Brewery (all legal age cyclists know where this is) on the westside of Bend. The shuttle leaves the brewery at 4 p.m. on Thursdays and 3 p.m. on Saturdays. The cost is $10 per person. The shuttle takes mountain bikers and their bikes to Swampy Lakes or Dutchman Flat. From there, riders make their own way back to town. Call Cog Wild at 541-385-7002 for more info. Also- try the Deschutes River Trail at Dillon Falls near Bend. Ride south to Benham Falls. The scenery is superb.

Take Hwy 20 East from Bend (you can't miss it.)
Hike South Sister Glaciers, crevasses, rock fall and other natural nuisances keep most people away from the summits of Oregon's volcanoes. But there is one mountain that has an easy way up (if six miles and a 4,800-foot gain can be called easy.) It's South Sister, Oregon's third highest peak at 10,358 feet. Find the trail at Devils Lake, five miles west of Mount Bachelor. After the snow melts in August, no specialized climbing gear is needed, other than some well-functioning lungs! (See the "Hiking Trails in Central Oregon" guide in this manual)
